After reading <Number the Stars>

Today, I am going to review a book called “Number the Stars”. If you’ve been at PEAI in 4th grade, or you read it individually, you would definitely know what this book is. Well, if you didn’t read the book, and you are planning to read it, I recommend you to read the book first because it might be a huge spoiler. Also, my explanation might be hard for you to understand.

I read this book at first when I was in 3rd grade. I read it at home. Then, it came as 4th grade, the last novel. It was exciting and also scary. It was because the background of the book was WW2. We were doing history in 4th grade, and we learned WW2 at the same time we read this novel.

First, there was a girl called Annemarie. She was living with her younger sister, Kirsti. Kirsti was way younger than Annemarie was, so Kirsti doesn’t do a great deal of help in this story. One day, a girl called Ellen Rosen came to Annemarie’s house and asked for help. It was because she was a Jew. Jewish people back then were killed by the Nazis. One day, a Nazi came to Annemarie’s house and searched if the was a Jew. However, there was a Jew, which was Ellen. Annemarie Quickly dragged Ellen’s David of Star necklace to a safer place that the Nazis couldn’t see. Luckily, the Nazis went back, so Ellen was safe.

( I want to tell you all of the story, but that isn’t fun, so I’ll skip some parts)

Later on, Ellen and her parents go to Annemarie’s uncle’s boat. However, they forgot a very important package. Annemarie ran to the boat, but came across several Nazis and furious dogs, However, Annemarie passed by and safely delivered the package.

Now, do you think the book ended? Well my answer is NO. There is good news AND bad news. First, the good news. The good news is that Ellen is alive, Annemarie is alive. However, there is still bad news. The Bad news is that Peter died. You might say “What?? Who in the word is Peter?”. And my answer is that “Peter is a Jewish boy. I didn’t really mention him ;;;;;;;”. And again, you might say “And, What about Peter?”. And my answer for THAT is “Peter died”. Peter was in the resistance. He fought for the Jews. He helped Annemarie and Ellen to live. However, he died. He got caught and was shot in the arm by the Nazis.

After I read this book, I thought that WW2 was a dangerous time, and I believed that Jewish people had no reason to die. The Nazis were “BOOOOOOOOOOOO!” And you would probably feel the same. And that’s my book review for “Number the Stars” today! Thank you for reading my blog post!!
