*Warning: This is about major league(the title’s major), and you should know about this fact*
If I say major, it’s major. I mean, like MAJOR.
If I say this phrase, many of you will click “our blogs” again and see another blog: San Diego Padres.
I don’t think I want to make you really bored(to people who have absolutely no interest in baseball), but this is a major situation. I don’t want to say “this is a major situation”and then make you bored, so, I will tell you about it now.
So as I told you before in many of my blogs, I am(was?) a fan of the San Diego Padres because I lived in San Diego, even though they were totally awful. But last year, the coach changed and this team started rising, slowly. Many of you(all of you) will know the LA Dodgers, since they are really the best team. In MLB(Major League Baseball), we have the American League and the National League. And in these leagues, there are divisions. You will say, “why do you have to divide them so much???”. The answer is simple. America is huge.
At first, teams in leagues play with each other. And in the ‘postseason’, one team in each division plays and all the other teams are just ‘the end’. So it's already really hard to win in the division. And then divisions in the league start to play. They still do not fight with the other league. And then, when there is a winner from each league, finally the winners fight with each other, which is called the world series. Really complicated.
The MAJOR problem was- LA DODGERS IS IN OUR TEAM’S DIVISION. You’ll probably know the problem of this. San Diego, even though they are rising, cannot even go to the postseason if they don’t win LA. And LA is- what should I say? A never ending fire?
So It’s very important to win when LA and San Diego are playing each other. Two teams play 3~4 times together when they meet once in a game. And if a team wins all the games that they played together once, it’s called a ‘sweep’. And in 2020, when the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers played together, LA did a sweep. And that really helped LA to go to the postseason.
Today(Saturday) was the first game that LA and SD met. Our family used almost all the time today to watch the game. A game usually takes about 3-4 hours, 9 innings. And today, they played for 4: 57. This is REALLY long.
It would(was) almost a miracle to win LA. LA is(everyone knows) a famous city. Because of that, LA is really rich. So they can buy good players a lot. And that’s why LAD is so good. So not only baseball, LA is good at basketball, soccer…. And more! So in Basketball, when there was a really good player who was in the LA Lakers(it’s the name) everyone from the other team was so angry that LA was always the winner, they cried out, BEAT LA!!! So until now, not only basketball, everyone in a team that is not LA cry out BEAT LA! And so was today’s game.
Conclusion: The Los Angeles Dodgers were NOT beaten. They won. Boo Hoo.
But no one in San Diego minded that. There was a fact that was really interesting. SD and LA fought really long, and they fought using all their players, especially pitchers. So only aces who should play in the next round and next next round were left in SD(LA has a lot of pitchers). And our team’s pitcher was in a really can’t-control-my-ball mode. So we HAD to change into someone. So- a hitter in the infield(we were defending) came to pitch on the mound! It was hilarious! How can a hitter pitch??? Funny thing! And actually, he even did a strike out. WOW. And in the infield that was empty, a player in the outfield came, and in the outfield, AN ACE PITCHER CAME!!! Once, there was a time when the hitter-as-pitcher threw and a pitcher from the other team(in the national league, pitcher also hit when it was their attack, but as the last hitter. In the Korean league, there is a person who only hits, and not defends, because pitchers do not hit.) hit it(very rare for a pitcher to hit. Mostly strike out.) and the ace pitcher-as-outfielder caught it! Ha ha.
Everyone, bye! It became really long.
P.S. I didn’t do the Repetition. I will edit this again on Tuesday when I learn about it.
