Believe in the possible
Once upon a time, there was a twelve-year-old girl called Ellie. She had a babysitter named Nicole. Her parents divorced, and her grandmother died when she was 3 years old. Even if her parents divorced, they were living like friends. One day, Ellie gets a goldfish from school, and the teacher explains that it is for learning about the life cycle. She names her goldfish “Goldie”. She thought Goldie lived for 7 years, but actually, it was fourteen goldfish who were living, and the real Goldie actually lived only two weeks.
Ellie’s grandfather, Melvin Sagarsky found out a way to go back to his young age, which was called T. Melvenous and he tested it on himself. However, Melvin later finds out what truly is life, and why it is wrong to just try to be younger. When he invented T. Melvenous by a jellyfish from a swimmer in Australia called Billie, he was so excited he could live more and not in the form of an elder.
Melvin believes that being old is bad, being an elder is bad because old people are just thrown away in places in nursing places. However, Ellie, who is twelve years old, wants to grow up. In this book, we can learn about how life starts and ends. Ellie’s grandmother died when she was three years old. Ellie’s grandmother’s life dream was to go around a tour of the country by bus, but she couldn’t achieve that dream and passed away. Later in the story, Ellie’s grandfather goes to their old house where nobody lives now and finds an old card that her grandmother had written to him years ago. He also finds pairs of fluffy slippers that Melvin gave to his wife every year of their wedding anniversary.
It later explains how Goldie, the goldfish that died in two weeks, is the grandfather. It states the life cycle. The grandfather thinks that if he dies, a lot of people will be sad, and which is why he invented the way to go back to when he was young.
But clearly, we can know that Ellie, by her grandfather, got some interest in science because Melvin only cares about science.
By reading this book, we can understand the true meaning of life and what is beyond them. Because Ellie and Melvin as they have different ages and different experiences get different thoughts about life and death.
This book ends with a swimmer who found the jellyfish for T. Melvenous, called Billie, who found another jellyfish with a better way to live longer. This will lead to more and more imagination, as the story leads to another place for the future. Will Ellie continue experimenting for the future jellyfish? Will she tell her grandfather about it? What will happen? The future imagination is up to you to think. I also really like to recommend this book to all of you:-) I read this in the English Version, but turns out there's a Korean version too!
