The book I am reading is called Hatchet and it is about a boy named Bryan. Bryan's parents are divorced and when one day Bryan is riding a small bushplane to meet his father, the pilot of the plane has a heart attack and Bryan is left alone in the plane. Now, Bryan is left on a plane without a pilot. Bryan manages to contact a pilot but the connection soon ends. When the plane is low on fuel, Bryan is forced to land the plane at a L shaped lake. Althought Bryan wrecks the plane and almost dies, he still lives. However, he is now stranded in a forest.
I read to the part where Bryan has finnaly made sufficient tools to live and has found a way to fight his hunger with raspberries and learned to start a fire. However, when he looks at the water and sees the fish swimming peacefully, he gets a idea. He makes a spear at first, but when the spear proved way slow and inefficient, instead Bryan made a bow and arrow and succesfully caught a fish. I think this part of the story was so important because it was the first time Bryan had ever had a working way of getting protien. I felt at this point that Bryan was kind of like how civilization started.
I also got to the point where Bryan was just hunting with his bow and arrow when a search plane soared across. Then I made a prediction that Bryan would be rescued. However, to my suprise, the plane just simply turned away and left even though Bryan had signalled with fire. I think that Hatchet is a pretty fun book and I had a great time reading it.
