Anne of Green Gables
By. Jasmine Hong
I have read this book very much, not by being forced, but because it was such a fun and impressive story.
Both of Anne’s parents died of a fever when she was a baby. She went to live with Mrs. Thomas until she was eight years old because Mr. Thomas died. Then, Anne lived with Mrs. Hammond, but when Mr. Hammond died, Anne was sent to the orphan and lived there for four months. Anne was then sent to the Green Gables, but realized she wasn’t supposed to belong here, a boy should have come. Marilla wanted to go back and change her with a boy instead, but her heart softened and decided to keep her. Matthew, Marilla’s brother, was indeed enjoyed because he liked Anne.
Anne made new friends like Diana Barry, and she experienced a lot of things. She went to the picnic, tasted ice cream for the first time in her life, meets Gilbert, a kind and hardworking, but mischief causing boy.
After many years, Anne went to college, and won the Avery! Unfortunately, Matthew died and if Anne went to college, Marilla would be alone, so Anne decided to not go to college, but study at home. A few days later, Gilbert asked the Avonlea (school) trustees to take Anne, and Gilbert said he’ll teach at White Sands, which is hard for him, since he didn’t have much money.
I think Anne is a poor and pitiful girl and Marilla was very kind to take Anne. Also, it was so surprising that Anne studied well. The saddest part was when Matthew died, and Anne recalled his words, which were “My girl-my girl that I’m proud of.”This was such a tragic, but romantic and fun story.
