Hi, this is Greene. A couple of days ago, I read Danny the Champion of the World, written by Roald Dahl. This book is about Danny and his father catching pheasants. They live in an old gypsy caravan, repairing automobiles.
Danny didn’t know this, but his father had a deep dark secret. His father was a poacher, who stole pheasants from Hazell’s wood. Danny’s grandfather had also been a great poacher. After Danny was born, he tried not to go poaching, but he had to go this time.
Danny’s father told Danny about poaching. All the best ways of poaching were discovered by Danny’s grandfather. There are the horsehair stopper and the sticky hat.
They decided to catch all of the remaining pheasants before the great shooting party, where they shoot all of the pheasants. The horsehair stopper and the sticky hat wasn’t going to work this time because they had too much pheasants to catch.
Then Danny invented sleeping pills inside raisins. The pheasants are crazy about raisins. They caught every single pheasant in Hazell’s Woods. When they had finally counted them, there were one hundred and twenty in total.
When they had finally gotten the pheasants, though, most of them flew away when the sleeping pill wore off. Only six of the greediest pheasants that had ate more than one raisin with the sleeping pill inside were left. Danny and his father shared the remaining pheasants with Sergeant Samways and Mrs. Cliptone.
I would have realized that the sleeping pills were going to wear off someday, and I would have made sure that the rest of the pheasants didn’t fly away. It was a really interesting book, and I enjoyed reading it.
