It was almost hell at the last few days. There was so much fine dust that my mom's fine dust app had a picture of a face wearing a gas mask. Today, I will explain the fine dust and how to deal with it. These are the contents.
▷About fine dust
▷Over the past few years
▷Conclusion
In general, air pollutants like fine dust are substances in the air that can have adverse effects on humans and the ecosystem. The substance can be solid particles, liquid droplets, or gases. A pollutant can be of natural origin or man-made. Particle pollution is produced when moisture in the air combines with fine particle matter. Particles less than 10 micrometers (PM-10) in diameter, which is about one-seventh the width of a single strand of human hair, are small enough to be inhaled into the lungs. This type of pollution can also contain other elements like smoke, nitrates, dirt or metals, and make the air appear hazy. Also, scientists and environment officials are most concerned with particles smaller than 10 micrometers. Fine particle matter, considered anything that is 2.5 micrometers in diameter or less, is especially dangerous. These types of particles are directly emitted from power plants, car exhausts, and smoke, and usually, contain various chemical elements.
The Air Quality Forecasting Center of the National Institute of Environmental Research pointed out that the average density of fine dust during the first three months in 2017 was measured at 32㎍/㎥, the worst for the last three years. There are few research results produced by local scholars on this subject matter. In 2014, Korea and China entered into an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to stage joint research projects but produced few substantial research products except identifying the origins of fine dust in China.
In March 2017, seven Korean environmentalists filed a suit against two governments of Korea and China for damages arising out of fine dust pollution. Without detailed evidence on the subject matter, however, such lawsuits do not seem to contribute to the solution of air pollution over the Korean Peninsula.
I think the whole Korea is suffering from the fine dust and also think that we can't blame China all for this dust because it's our fault too. To help, we could wash our hands after we come back home and ride public transportation. Although it is a big problem, if all people work together, maybe things would get a bit better.
