Hi I’m Claire. Today I would like to talk about physical beauty. My school’s principal often talks about an issue at student council meetings, so I became interested. Also, our novel, Cinder suggests this issue. Physical beauty is very important to our society. Usually, people who meet others’ beauty standards are more noticed, even popular. This is not popularity earned by being a good friend, meaning it’s not real, which can lead to bulling. However, it is the sad truth that people have prejudice about not so pretty/handsome people. For example, if a white foreigner asks for directions, people think that he/she is there for traveling. If a black foreigner asks, people normally think they are there to work. This is what normal people would think, according to my principal. I think people should change their way of thinking. They should think more of the person’s insides, not the shell. This is probably common sense to you, but it’s hard to do in real life. Moreover, all prejudices we have about people is not true. Examples could be girls like pink and boys like blue. Especially in Korea, men are supposed to be brave, and women are supposed to cook food.
We should not have prejudices.
