Hello, my name's Lucas and I just read a book the 'giver' to get the fundamental idea for the book that we'll begin reading in about a week or so. So, don't read this blog if you don't want spoilers.
This book starts with a boy (eleven) named Jonas with his best friend, Asher waiting to be twelve and get assigned jobs. He waits through his normal life with a few things happening. When the Ceremony of Twelve happens, Asher (number 4) gets assigned recreation director, but the chief elder skips number nineteen and announces him at the end. Apparently, he got selected as the receiver (selection of the job is very, very rare) which is is supposed to keep memories and knowledge that couldn't be held by other people. Then, he was given a folder with a one paper of rules as the receiver. The rules are: 1. He's supposed to go to the annex (the old receiver's house) after school and immediately go to home after that.
2. He isn't supposed to apply for training-related medication, discuss the training with the anybody else, and not allowed to get released. 3.
He can lie and ask rude questions to people.
At the first day of him being a receiver, he felt the memory that was sent to him: snow, sled, hills, etc and understood it. He asked what should he call the old receiver and he said 'call me giver'. (probably why the title's so not detailed) At the second day of his training, he learned about colors (other people couldn't see it) and going on and on.
-The end- (check the continuing story on the book 'giver')
