This book is a series of the Nancy Drew stories. I began to read this book because the Nancy Drew stories contains adventurous and mysterious stories, which I like.
Nancy visits Lilac Inn, which is operated by an engaged couple. Then, strange things start to happen. Emily, who is engaged with a man named Dick had kept diamonds which she had kept to use for money after she and Dick had married. She was just admiring them, when the lights went out! When it came back on, the diamonds had vanished into thin air!! Also, a person was impersonating Nancy and came to the Inn at nights, and tried to hurt her by setting a time bomb in Nancy’s cottage, throwing a spear in the water when she was diving, and hurling a rock into her car. Nancy looked for clues, but couldn’t find anything. She had even tried disguising as the impersonator, but the guard accidentally caught Nancy, thinking that she was the impersonator. After many days, she found a note that said like this:
Dear Lillie
I hope we can get together soon. I’ve been busy lining up an important jab. Give my best to your dad. Tell him I have a beautiful blue pipe for him. Hope to see you soon.
Hastily, but with love,
Gay
After seeing this, Nancy went to find a person called Lillie and talked to her about Gay. She got to know that Gay was just released from prison, but she said that she would take revenge on the person who imprisoned her.
Actually, Gay turned out to be the thief of all the strange things that had happened. She disguised as the new waitress, Jean and overheard the whole thing about the diamonds. It also turned out that it was Nancy’s father who had imprisoned Gay, and she was trying to take revenge on Nancy.
I think Nancy is really smart to think about this and also that Gay was smart too, even though she had committed several crimes. Furthermore, I think we should be careful for clever crimes like this. You might think that these only happen in books, but who knows?
