Recently I read a book called 'The Scarlet Letter' written by Nathaniel Hawthorn. This book is very famous all throughout the world and people say that this book it the best of all his novels. This book is about Hester Prynne, a women who has to wear the scarlet letter A for the rest of her life. It starts with Hester Prynne standing in the middle of the crowd with the scarlet letter and a baby. She was supposed to stand there for 3 hours and wear the scarlet letter A which means adulteress for the rest of her life. She had a husband but for some reason they had to live apart for a period of time. But, she had a baby when she was not with her husband. People asked who was the baby's father but Hester never answered. Her actual husband Roger Chillingworth sees this scene and leaves. Roger Chillingworth becomes the personal doctor of Arthur Dimmensdale who is the minister of Hester's church and Pearl's (Hester's baby) real father. Everyone liked Dimmensdale and they were happy that a doctor came when his health was not good. While looking at Dimmensdale, Roger Chillingworth realizes that he has and unconfessed guilt that made his health bad. He gives Dimmensdale a psychological pressure to make him confess. One day Roger Chillingworth sees the mark on his bare chest and realizes that he is the secret father of Pearl. While he could not win the feel of guilt, Dimmensdale confesses that he is Pearl's father while dying in Hester's arms. A short while after that without the will of revenge Roger Chillingworth dies too. People say that they saw a Scarlet letter A when Dimmensdale died. After that Hester lives quietly still with the scarlet letter A.
When I read this book. is was fascinating. I could only read the book without paying attention to anything else. This book really made me to go into the book and think like I am the character. Still, the real minds of the three main characters Hester Prynne, Roger Chillingworth, and Arthur Dimmensdale were hard to fully understand. Still, I think it was a very meaningful book and everyone should read at least once.
