The Slippery Slope
By. Jasmine Hong
I read this book because I had read other series of this book, and I was very eager to find out what will happen next. The Baudelaires’ parents are members of the VFD, but the siblings don’t even know what VFD stands for. They only know VFD might stand for the Valley of Four Drafts, which is near the Mortmain Mountains.
On the last book, a wicked man named Count Olaf had only taken one of the Baudelaires (Sunny) to the Mortmain Mountains to steal their family fortune, but the other Baudelaires, Klaus and Violet are only half way up the mountains. On their way, they meet their friend named Quigley. With his help, the Baudelaires manage to go up the mountains. They find many clues, but are not sure of the meanings.
Meanwhile, Sunny signals to her siblings and they met together. Sunny said Count Olaf knows the last safe place the members of the VFD would probably meet, so the siblings plan that Sunny would stay and overhear information. The others, Klaus and Violet tries to get Sunny back by talking to Count Olaf. Sunny almost got thrown down the mountains, but fortunately, she hid and didn’t get thrown over. Sunny, Klaus, Sunny, and Quigley heads down the mountain with a toboggan, but they plunge into the melted ice and they lose sight of Quigley.
I think this story is very sad for the Baudelaires. Also, I think these riddles and small clues they find in the book is telling what will happen next, and I think it was very fun to guess.
