Hi, this is Greene. I read a book called The Word Eater. This book is about a tiny worm called Fip. Fip is a special worm who eats words. When he eats words, he actually eats the words, not the paper or the ink or anything else. But the most extraordinary thing about Fip is that when he eats words, things disappear. For example, if Fip ate the word book, books would suddenly disappear.
A girl named Lerner first found Fip. She first didn’t know about Fip’s magical abilities, but she soon found out that she could keep him and maybe use him a little. After she makes some things disappear, she decides that Fip’s magic is too dangerous. She realizes that Fip could kill all of them by eating words like oxygen.
She gets rid of his magic by letting Fip eat the words Fip’s Magic. Fip’s magic disappears, and he becomes a normal worm again. Later, Lerner finds out that some of the words that Fip ate didn’t cause a lot of trouble.
If I found a worm like Fip, I would have let him eat things that are really bad. I wouldn’t have made silly mistakes like Lerner did. But after I was done using Fip, I would have gotten rid of Fip’s magic, too. Lerner also did experiments with Fip’s magic, which I really wouldn’t have done. She should have tried harder to keep secrets from her classmates.
This book was interesting and I liked it. It would have been better if Lerner did something more interesting.
