Christmas makes serious environmental problems. First of all, the number of waste is much larger than usual. Sharing gifts is one of the main events of Christmas that people love. However just in a small gift for Christmas, the wrappers, ribbons and cards, all become junk and the main reasons of pollution. Not only the decorations. Several people throw away their presents soon, and to make them finally gone, it causes terrible global warming. And not only the gifts. Nowadays, people love to make Christmas trees and decorate them. Also they prefer using real, fresh trees for the holiday. But this action is cutting a great amount of the trees, and pollutes the environment and air. Besides, all of those Christmas feast makes extreme food waste, that could cause pests and other problems. To add, food waste occurs with high concentration leachate, and that leads to expensive processing cost. Last but not least, during the holiday, people bustle in streets, traffics and other places. It becomes a total chaos, especially in the traffic. Then a high amount of exhaust gas comes out and pollutes the society.

According to the studies of Yale university, when we asked 8~14 years old children their expectations for Christmas gifts, 89.6% of children had expected high costing gifts that cost at least 60 dollars or more. And when we asked the same children, but with the different question, that if they get an unsatisfying gift, what do they do? And surprisingly, 92.3% of children had answered they would throw it away soon. Why does this matter? because it shows that just for one short time’s happiness, we become more and more greedier, selfish since we were young, and do not care about our mother earth. Boo!!
