Obedience School prologue&P.1(with many "BEAUTIFUL WORDS" in it)

Cast: Sussana Obervine, Yuni Lee/ Caroline Brown, me/ Thomason Pudge, Undecided/ Other characters based on classmates.

Prologue: The swords hilt slashes against my right brow. Blood dripping from my eyes, I stumble against the vines covering the street, all alone. My hunting boots come along a dark alley, with no light, and no life. I jump behind the corner and catch my breath, as the soldiers march by.

I grapple my fingers at the inner part of my pockets, and find a cold material resting upon my knees. I grab it and pull it out; it’s a beautiful pendant, made of emerald, and a soft silver chain. I pull up the cover of the emerald, and a piece of paper slides out of it. It’s the last note that I had been given from my friends; I know what it means now. But when you realize something, sometimes, it’s too late.

Part 1: Voting Day

Oldest sister, Elena Obervine: Sussana!!! Wake up!!! We have to go to Veridia’s place to vote!

Sussana Obervine (Yuni): (Grunt) (Shuffle) What for?

Elena: Today’s the dreaded Voting Day, remember??

I jump down three stairs at a time down to the kitchen, and leap into my seat. My 8-year-old sister, Bella, is sitting on her special chair, her legs dangling against the table. I’m 12, and I’ve been through the Voting once. Elena’s 18, and it’s her 8th year since she did this. On the Voting Day, the townspeople all get together at Veridia’s with the Council guarding at the doorway, to make sure a fair vote to send 10 unlucky children to the ‘Obedience Training’, works out.

Bella Obervine: What do we do if we go to the Obedience School?

Sussana: (Pouring cereal into her bowl) Nothing pretty, anyways.

Elena: (Glaring at her) Sussana…

Sussana: (Feeling a shouting match coming up) Okay, okay! Sorry, sorry. Bella, you just…play with your friends, okay?

Bella: Yay! I love playing…

After I eat my cereal, I dump my bag on my shoulders, and quickly hurry to go to the Vote with my friends Delia Hupburk (Savina), Isabella Jalene (Irene), and Stella Willow (Dain). Elena will take Bella to school, then visit her assistant, Flora, and check how it’s going in the purse shop she owns. Afterwards, she’ll come directly to the so called “Flower Garden”; it actually doesn’t have any flowers. It’s just a stretch between a lawn full of yellow grass and shriveled, plum-colored “flowers”.

Delia (Savina): Hello!!!!

Sussana: Umm…hii…

Isabella (Irene): I’m sooo excited!!

Sussana: (Horrified) Why?

Isabella: (Eyes twinkling) Because this is my one chance to get out of this rusty ol’ town and actually see all of the celebrities and fame in the cities!

Delia: (Sarcastic eye roll) Will you still be excited when you’re trying to KILL the fame you’ve just discovered?

Isabella: Well…I guess not…

Sussana: (Looking around) Where’s Stella?

Delia: She went home to look for one of her cats; she has 12 and you know it’s hard to keep track of all of them.

Isabella: (Confused) Doesn’t she have 8 cats? Or at least, I think so…I lost track of them after Tree gave birth to a bunch of kittens.

Delia: (Ignoring her) Let’s go to Mrs. V’s first. Stella will come along, after she gives food to Michelle; he’s having a meltdown right now.

We hurry towards the Flower Garden, and find Cora Buddle (Yoomin), and Drea Sherry (Sophia) sitting on the bench outside the house. They had already voted, I suspect, please let it not be ME that they chose.

A grief silence hangs inside the house, and we quickly get seats for ourselves, and vote. I quickly scribble in my paper the name “Leod Scotch”; he is about the evilest bully I’ve ever seen in my school. I see Delia write down Leod too, and I’m sure that Stella will as well; but I faintly see Isabella write down Cora’s name down on the sheet. I know she’s always disliked her because she can’t believe that Cora always frolics with the animals in the yard instead of “Actual Sensitive People”. The only person I ever saw Cora hanging out with was Drea, and I don’t know how that can be, because they’re so DIFFERENT.

(Door smashes, and window crackles)

Stella (Dain): (Holding two cats in each arm) (Shouting) I’m here!

Mrs. Ickelberry: STELLA, I told you not to bring your cats to the council meeting or any place else!!!! I’m severely allergic…ah…ah…ACHOOE!!!!!!

Stella: (Rubbing spit off her jeans) Omg, bless YOU! (Turning head away) Hi guys, I brought Tiny Tim and Jimmy Goda with me! Aren’t they so CUTEEEE???

Delia: (Giving her a look) Just go ahead and vote for yourself, Stella. And besides, many of the seniors here literally HATE cats…

Mr. Oak (Veridia’s husband): (Half-blind, half-deaf) Your kits have CAT GERMS, lady!!! Get ‘em outta here!!!

Delia: (Smirking) See?

After Elena finally comes too, and we all finish voting, Veridia marches up to the stand with the box full of the votes in her hand. She gives some long speech about the history between The Soldiers of The Magic Realm and us, and how our ancestors lost in some war and that now, we think it obvious to join the Votes on the Voting Day. It was the same story last year and the year before that. I try hard not to doze off, because Veridia’s one of the few respected Elders in Kingdom 50. But when the time comes to announce the votes, I’m so awake, and I don’t even need my morning chocolate to stop me from sleeping in the middle of the day.

Isabella: I at least HOPE that it isn’t me.

Sussana: But you were the one who said that you wanted to go to The Magic Realm!

Isabella: Yes, but I think it would be better to just make a peaceful life in Kingdom 50 instead of fighting to death. It would totally ruin my look!

Stella: I hope that I don’t get voted either! I have my cats to look after! Michelle will ruin the kitchen if I leave!

Delia: (Sighing) I think everybody would hope that Stell.

Veridia: (Full of tension) So now, for the ten LUCKY few to go to the Obedience School, as grand as Hogwarts and as magnificent as the Cornucopia in the Hunger Games…the first one voted is…(fishes hand into the box)Cora Rid buddle!

I start. I know that some people, like Isabella, voted Cora, but I had seriously doubted that she would be the one actually sent to training. Cora comes up to the front, her face wrinkled, probably full of concern, but there’s more than selfish worry for herself behind that look. The next one who gets voted is Emilia Drake, the next one, Sandy Locks, and so on. I was really hoping that we could get rid of Leod, but when we come to the ninth one and his name is still not mentioned, I feel like both his supporters and enemies avoided the voting entirely. Still, I feel a rush of relief, since there’s only a slim chance that I might get voted.

Veridia flips over the last pieces of papers in her hands, wishes us luck, and then announces the final vote.

My heart stops beating entirely when I hear whose name, she calls. It’s not Leod Scotch. It’s not even me.

It’s Delia Hupburk.

What will happen to Sussana’s friend Delia? Will Sussana be able to rescue her?
