I believe I would hardly go a little far from the camp, because I am not so talented physically and have no tenacity. Also I think I won’t even try to save Zero, because unlike Stanley I don’t have much bravery for this kind of challenge, and I am a selfish person. Also I wouldn’t have drank the sploosh, because I value hygiene very much. I mean, who would like to drink a mud looking suspicious liquid? You might have death by the bacteria of that, not thirstiness. Therefore, I think I will hardly get out of the camp, and I would not drink the sploosh for these reasons.
I believe the survival instinct had made Stanley keep on walking to the Big thumb in the story. In the story, Zero and Stanley were both in a desperate situation where they have no water and can have death in any second. Also the Big thumb is the one and only hope and place to earn the water and survival, so especially he had kept on walking to the big thumb. Also, If he had died from thirst, his friends, family and his people would feel great sadness, so he had walked to the big thumb too. Thus, I believe this is why Stanley had kept walking toward the mountain Big thumb.
