Chapter 2: Jobs

“Corals? CORAL S!!!!!” my little brother called out.

“What you stupid moron?” I replied to my brother.

“ Dad says wake up, he says it’s job day!” My little brother answered.

Great job day, where the timekeepers choose the job for you. It’s all random, you could be anything. But it’s not allowed to complain.

I got out of bed, and got dressed. A casual plain shirt with leggings. I went down to get breakfast.

“ Corals, , I think it’s very obvious that that thing is not something you wear to the “very important” jobs day!” my dad shouted at me as I got downstairs.

I asked, “Can’t I just like change after breakfast???”

“ No Corals!! You must always follow the time… It’s 7:55!! Go change in 5minutes, you must always get yourself dressed before 8:00!” my dad shouted.

I replied with a heavy sigh and walked back up again.

I decided to just wear that kinda big red shirt with normal dark blue shorts. I kinda stammered on the cape my mom left for me, but decided in the end to just wear it anyways. I don’t care what dad says.

It was obvious dad didn’t like it, but it was 8:00 anyways.

After breakfast, all my family drove to the grand plaza for my job. I wasn't really expecting to get a good job, I mean, I never worked hard, I only tried to keep to the schedule.

My dad always told me to work better, but I always slided his words out of my other ear.

I hate this world. It’s obvious-

1. We can’t decide anything

2. Timekeepers always tell us what to do

3. Ones who do not follow rules are removed.

4. There are no exits to somewhere else.

I hate it, I just want to change things, you know?

After arriving at the grand plaza, everyone sat down and waited for the great Timekeeper, the Clock.

“Welcome everyone to the jobs day!”, shouted out the Great clock.

Everyone cheered for him.

“Today, the young ones of 2010 will be getting jobs…. We will start with John Williams!

And Started the great “jobs day”.....

After name by name, the Clock assigned jobs to everyone. But I couldn’t miss the feeling that the Great clock wasn’t calling my name. Well, Sometimes, even the Great clock forgets. So it doesn't really matter anyways.

Lastly, the Great clock Announced, “ I do think that it’s been a very long time since we picked some new young timekeepers everyone! So we decided 4 Children should become new timekeepers!”

Everyone murmured, as there were rarely new timekeepers.

“ We decided that Ender, Dyaln, Kell, and Corals would become our NEW timekeepers!”

I looked at my brother and my dad in disbelief. They looked surprised at me.

“So, please, Ender, Dylan, Kell, and Corals, step up over here please!”
