Prisoner: Bradstep-Mr. Brad

Story:

Whistletuft bounded across the camp, smooth calico pelt ruffled by the warm breeze. She was heading towards "The Prison", the most shaded, cornered part of the camp. There, the prisoner, Bradstep was trapped. The flea-bitten, mottled brown tom would currently be munching on a scrawny mouse he was given by the hunting patrol that had just passed by. The thought of him scrambling over a filthy little prey that was only bones, and him moaning over the return of Applesnout made Whistletuft inwardly gloat.

'I've grown over the past few moons to accept her," Whistletuft realized with a jolt. 'Which makes SENSE since she is so nice and friendly to everyone.'

Putting down the thoughts about the young brown-and-white tortoiseshell, Whistletuft pelted past the dirtplace, circled around the prey pile, and skidded to a halt in front of the prison. Clearing her throat, she screeched into the little cell, "Bradstep! Get out this instant! I am your guard, and Cloudwing has asked me to escort you to the warrior's den to give you your daily punishment!"

"Is that a punishment that is justified?" a rusty meow came from deep within the cavern.

"Of course not." Whistletuft spat coldly. "But you still deserve it." "No way I'm coming with you!" Bradstep exclaimed from inside the den. There were sounds of desperate scrabbles from inside. "I need a trial! Call Dreamstar!"

"No!" Whistletuft yowled. "Isn't a warrior's call as good as Dreamstar's call? Come out already!"

The sounds of scrabble came louder from inside the den. "I'm going to escape!" Bradstep screeched from inside.

"No, you're not!" Whistletuft gave a battle cry, and dashed into the prison. There was a sound of scuffle from inside, and the squeal that was heard next was the voice of none other than Whistletuft.

"HELP!!"

***

Fluttertail and Murmurheart did everything together. They had the connection of sister and brother; Fluttertail was a kind-hearted orange and pale ginger she-cat, with an unusually long white-tipped tail, while Murmurheart was a calm, calculating dark ginger tom. And that day, when they faced Bradstep, they did it together.

They heard Whistletuft's horrible scream, and immediately noticed that something was terribly wrong. Without another word, they bowed their heads to each other, and dashed off in different directions. Fluttertail bounded over to the medicine cat's den to fetch Sleepytail and Applesnout, and Murmurheart pounded over to the prison, and carefully poked his head inside.

Inside the cell, where a ray of sunlight shone, he could faintly make out the signs of a scuffle, and Whistletuft piled on top of a bag of bones. Bradstep was glaring down at her triumphantly, and opened his mouth to sneer.

Just then, Murmurheart jumped. He leaped on top of a very surprised Bradstep, who gave a yowl of shock, and rolled away. Murmurheart unsheathed his claws, and pinched them into the prisoner's fur, rolling around on his back.

The medicine cats leaped inside just at that moment, faces contorted with rage and fear. Fluttertail bounded in with them, and after her, Cozyleaf, Hawkfur, Jaytuft, and last of all, Cloudwing, who yowled in fury, as he dashed inside, and grabbed Murmurheart by the scruff, pulling him down to the ground, muttering through a clenched jaw, "This is MY fight! Not yours!"

His foolish movements gave Bradstep a chance to rear up and pull both Murmurheart and Cloudwing down to the ground, and sat on top of them before they had the chance to rear back. The remaining cats gasped in horror. Two of the strongest warriors defeated single-handedly! "How dare you sit on my brother!" Fluttertail hissed, and pounded over to him, trying to grab him by the paw and turn him around. However, she was one second too late. The evil prisoner grasped her by the muzzle and crunched his teeth down on her neck. Fluttertail screeched in pain and collapsed to the ground unconscious, causing Murmurheart to yell in panic.

Hawkfur and Jaytuft circled Bradstep and tried to launch a double attack, but was immediately clawed in the pelts by the villain. Hawkfur yowled in agony and collapsed to the ground, immediately followed by Jaytuft. Both toms lay on the ground, very still.

Cozyleaf hurriedly tried to fix the situation by attacking Bradstep herself, but at the next moment she was lying flat on the ground next to the others, eyes filled with horror. He had defeated them all! Well, most of them, anyways.

Sleepytail gave a fear-filled cry and jumped, trying to claw at the tom, but was flicked away easily. Applesnout watched in terror, unable to move. This was the exact same situation as on the day she had almost died. And she couldn't bare to watch it continue.

The tortoiseshell leaped up, and clawed away at Bradstep side by side, moving swiftly and nimbly. Unfortunately for her, Bradstep caught her too fast.

"I've already memorized your moves, kitty." spat Bradstep. "You're too slow for ME."

He crunched his teeth into her left ear. With one last look of horror, Applesnout crumbled to the ground, part of her ear missing; Cloudwing tried to shriek in fear, but found it hard to utter a word under the weight of the evil tom. Murmurheart had already gone silent.

Pouncingfur was the next to come in, with Sweetstrike with her, alerted by the shouts and yowls from the cavern; however, as soon as she entered the cell, Bradstep attacked her, and when she fell to the floor, pushed her and Sweetstrike over to the crumpled pile of cats. Moonfighter bounded in to the cell at the moment, and even she, one of the senior warriors, was defeated, though she used her claws and teeth as best as she could.

Powerdust was the last to come. She poked her silver head through the entrance, immediately alarmed by the sight of all of Thunderclan's cats fallen. She tried her best to stay calm as she crept around The Prison, looking for the best moment to attack.

Just then, from inside the den, she heard Bradstep's screech, "I can smell you, Power-filth! Come in and get me!"

There was no hesitating anymore. Powerdust jumped high and soared across the den to land on top of Bradstep. She planted her claws into his pelt, and dragged him to the ground; Bradstep, however, was prepared for the move. He reared back and kicked the she-cat in the belly with his hind paws; Powerdust immediately retaliated, biting her teeth into his tail, but the battle was already lost. Powerdust staggered back, blood leaking out of her head from Bradstep's strong hind claws. Just at that moment, Dreamstar came in.

***

She had suspected something as all of her cats had disappeared, one by one, but she had never expected something as bad as this. And not only because of the unconscious cats. As soon as she had came in, Bradstep had immediately stepped forward to press his claw on Moonfighter's neck. The she-cat barely had any strength to retaliate.

"Dreamstar!" Bradstep screeched. "Give Thunderclan to me, or I will kill all of your cats, one by one!"

Dreamstar stared at him, open-mouthed; she saw a faint glitter in Moonfighter's amber eyes saying 'Don't do it!' However, when she looked around at the others she saw resignation in their eyes. 'Do it,' was their silent call. Dreamstar didn't want to do it. She didn't want to give up her clan (OR her weasels) to this filthy, fox-hearted traitor. But THE filthy, fox-hearted traitor was capable of anything. Even if she fought him, the answer was obvious of who would win.

Finally, Dreamstar opened her mouth. "Yes," she meowed heavily, "Yes, I will give up my clan to you. Please, just don't kill my cats."

Moonfighter gave a little mew of protest in the corner, but she did not have the strength to say more as Bradstep took his claw off her neck, gave a triumphant purr, and bowed his head to Dreamstar, a evil glint in his eyes. "Keep your promise, Dreamstar-or should I say-DreamFEATHER." he purred. "From now on I own this clan."

Dreamstar glared helplessly at the brown tom, as he smugly padded out of the room. Just before his tail disappeared around the corner, he turned around, and sealed the entrance with a thorn barrier. Cackling, his shadow disappeared from the doorway.

Cloudwing, who had barely stood up, collapsed back down to the ground. All was lost. Thunderclan had failed.
