Hello, people. Today, I'm going to talk about how I started the sport, FENCING
Please enjoy!
My experience with fencing actually goes back to my childhood days, when I often engaged in toy sword fights with my brother, Eric. Sorry for Eric, but as his senior and older brother, I always prioritized winning over him rather than sticking to the rules of the game.
Seeing how I enjoyed playing sword-fights with my brother, I was quickly introduced to fencing as a sport after second grade. In the beginning, I had such a hard time with fencing. Imagine: being behind a big, dark, jail-like mask, with the goal of defeating the opponent on the other side. To top that, I suffered from flat feet (gesture to flat feet), and ended up losing many of the matches I was in. As a man of self-pride, I lost my interest and wanted to quit the sport.
One day during a match, however, my eyes were drawn to our fencing team’s motto written on the wall “you like fencing, and I like you for that.” I then realized that maybe there is more to fencing than just winning. After all, all of my opponents were also my teammates who were in the camp to learn and enjoy fencing. After resetting my priorities, I learned to study and respect my opponents, whom I have developed good friendships with over the years.
