Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and a few more of Harvard's students. This platform was mainly created to allow people to connect with their friends and share their lives. Facebook has approximately 1.13 billion daily active users making it extremely popular these days. Not only that, but ages 15 and up tend to do more Facebook than elementary students. Facebook prioritizes "love" more than "like" in addition to everything I said. Finally, if a post in Facebook doesn't earn much comments, it eventually disappears from the app.
Instagram was founded by Kevin Systrom. The platform was created to "Capture the world's moments. So you'd post a picture from when you went on vacation or a huge birthday party you had. Instagram has 500 million daily active users which is less than Facebook but still pretty much considering the fact that Instagram was founded later than Facebook. Your relationship with that person is likely caused by the type of content you post. Lastly, Instagram has stronger following than Instagram.
