Halloween is a day of horror, but also a very meaningful day. It was actually originated by the Celts, who lived two thousand years ago in Ireland, the UK and northern France. The day marked right after summer, end of harvest, or beginning of winter was often associated with human death. Also, they believed that the day before new year, the boundaries between the living and the dead became blurred so that ghosts were among the living. They called this day Samhain.
After some time, Pope Gregory III declared this day to celebrate the saints, which now evolved to Halloween. Halloween, or Allhalloween is now a day known for costumes, pranks, horror movies, and sales. For most people, it is their favorite holiday, since they require activities that themselves can do. In Korea, or many Asian countries, neither Christmas or Halloween hasn't been that popular since Christmas was made in the Europe areas. However, countries in North America(U.S. and Canada) and Europe seem to be following Halloween Traditions, like Trick or Treating or wearing costumes in public places. In Korea, we still have sales in most shops, but we don't Trick or Treat in our neighborhoods. We have our own holiday traditions in Korea, like Chuseok.
So, to conclude, Halloween was a religious day made for a successful harvest. However, most people think that it has been the devil's birthday. Even though many people just enjoy the holiday, they should be aware of the holiday's historical meaning. Hope you have a boo-tiful Halloween!!
